YouGov: Ski jumping series is the most successful event in 2023

The Four Hills Tournament was the most popular sporting event in Germany in 2023. This has now been determined by the independent international evaluation platform YouGov. In the 2023 popularity ranking, the ski jumping series came fifth with a buzz value of 9.4 (determined in January 2023), making it the only sporting event ever to make it into the top ten. In first place in the 2023 ranking is the German women's national soccer team (score: 23.3, July), followed by the German Football League (16.4, May), the German Women's Football League (13.9, May) and the DFB Cup (13.3, February).

"Of course, we are very pleased with this result, as it is in line with our experience. The atmosphere on site is always sensational and the TV broadcast ratings are really great. It's great that this impression has now been confirmed by the YouGov surveys," says Dr. Peter Krujier from Oberstdorf, President of the Four Hills Tournament.

To determine the buzz score in YouGov's SportsIndex, respondents are asked in an online interview whether they have noticed anything about a sporting event or institution in the past two weeks via advertising, media coverage or conversations with friends and acquaintances and whether this was predominantly classified as positive or negative. The actual score is determined by balancing the percentages of positive and negative statements among all participants. The possible range for buzz scores therefore covers a scale of -100 to +100 score points.

In the 2023 ranking, the Four Hills Tournament comes ahead of the German Handball League (6th place/score 9.3, September) and the UEFA Champions League (7th/8.9, June), once again underlining its leading position among sporting events in Germany. In the 2020 event year, the tour was even ranked number one, but this was also due to the fact that hardly any sporting events could take place that year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
