Ski jumping season ended early - Kraft wins overall World Cup

2020-03-13 · 12:54

Due to the current situation and in order to prevent further spread of the corona virus, the ski jumping season 2019/2020 was ended early yesterday. The Ski Flying World Championships 2021 in Planica will also be postponed until next year. Stefan Kraft thus wins the overall World Cup.

Already the ski jumping competitions in Oslo and also the qualification in Trondheim had to take place without spectators due to the current situation. After the Ministry of Health in Norway announced on Thursday that all sporting events were cancelled, this year's Raw Air was also cancelled with immediate effect. The Pole Kamil Stoch wins ahead of last year's winner, Ryoyu Kobayashi and Marius Lindvik from Norway. Best German becomes Stephan Leyhe in fifth place.

Due to the cancellation of Raw Air the World Cup is also decided early. The Austrian Stefan Kraft secures the big crystal globe with 1659 points ahead of Karl Geiger (1519 points) and Ryoyu Kobayashi (1178 points). Germany secures the Nations Cup ranking ahead of Austria and Norway. Also, the Ski Flying World Championships in Planica, Slovenia, planned for the end of March will not take place and will probably be postponed until next year. For all teams it is now time to go back home.
