The German ski jumpers have shown an impressive performance in their last individual World Cup before the World Championships in Planica. However, the world's elite was not fully represented in Andreas Wellinger's victory on February 18, 2023.

Saturday - Individual jumping

Out of the six German starters only Stephan Leyhe did not make it to the top six. But the rest of the German team showed a solid performance and dominated the field. Andreas Wellinger jumped to 94.0 and 99.0 meters and received high scores for his technique from the judges. With 240.4 points he came out on top of the field and took the World Cup victory. Second went to Ziga Jelar with distances of 91.5 and 98.5 meters. Karl Geiger finished third with a jump to 91.0 meters and the second jump to 99.0 meters. Markus Eisenbichler, Philipp Raimund and Constantin Schmid also jumped to high distances and finished fourth to sixth.

The fact that many of the top ski jumpers were not present at this World Cup naturally diminishes the success of the German team somewhat. Nevertheless, the victory of Andreas Wellinger is a good sign for the upcoming World Championships in Planica. The German ski jumpers have shown that they are competitive even without the complete world elite and are among the favorites for the World Cup title.
