World Record at the World Cup Final in Planica

The ski flying weekend in Planica ended with a new world record, the overall World Cup victory for Daniel Tschofenig, and the ski flying title for Domen Prevc. Prevc set a new benchmark with 254.5 meters but had to concede victory in the final individual competition to Anze Lanisek.

Thursday - 27.03.2025:

The qualification round in Planica ended with a German triple victory. Andreas Wellinger secured first place with a jump of 227 meters, followed by Pius Paschke (226 m) and Markus Eisenbichler (238.5 m), who made a strong statement before his retirement. Slovenian hopes rested on Domen Prevc, who achieved the best training distance of 246.5 meters but had to settle for fourth place in the qualification. Strong performances also came from Poland’s Piotr Zyla, Kamil Stoch, and Pawel Wasek, all finishing in the top ten.

Friday - 28.03.2025:
Domen Prevc claimed victory in the penultimate individual competition with jumps of 234.5 and 237.5 meters. The Slovenian triumphed over Anze Lanisek and Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi. While the German jumpers dominated qualification, they were unable to reach the podium in the competition. Andreas Wellinger was the best German in sixth place, followed by Karl Geiger (7th) and Pius Paschke (10th). Before the final event, it was already confirmed that Austria’s Daniel Tschofenig had secured the overall World Cup title, while Domen Prevc won the small crystal globe for ski flying.
Saturday - 29.03.2025:
Austria won the final team competition of the season, beating Germany and host nation Slovenia. The Austrian squad, consisting of Tschofenig, Fettner, Hörl, and Kraft, delivered a consistent performance and secured a clear victory. The German team, with Geiger, Wellinger, Paschke, and Eisenbichler, fought hard but couldn't close the gap. The emotional highlight of the day was Markus Eisenbichler’s farewell jump - he ended his career with two strong flights of 223.5 meters. Poland secured fourth place, while Japan, thanks to a strong performance by Ryoyu Kobayashi (235 m), finished fifth.
Sunday - 30.03.2025:
The World Cup final provided a spectacular conclusion: Domen Prevc set a new ski flying world record with 254.5 meters but still had to concede victory to Anze Lanisek, who won with jumps of 247.5 and 241.5 meters. From a German perspective, Andreas Wellinger delivered a strong performance, securing third place with two jumps of 236.5 meters. Paschke (6th) and Geiger (10th) also finished in the top ten. Austria secured the Nations Cup with a commanding lead over Germany and Norway, which faced scrutiny due to a recent manipulation scandal. Thus, an exciting season concluded with many highlights and a new world record.
