Markus Eisenbichler Ends Ski Jumping Career
Markus Eisenbichler, six-time ski jumping world champion and Olympic bronze medalist, is retiring at the age of 33 after the World Cup final in Planica.

Markus Eisenbichler, the most successful German ski jumper in World Championship history, is retiring from active competition at the end of this season. The 33-year-old will make his final appearance at the World Cup final in Planica, Slovenia, from March 28 to 30, as announced by the German Ski Association (DSV).
"Over the past few months, I have thought about this a lot, and my gut feeling tells me that now is the right time. It just feels right," said Eisenbichler. "Ski jumping was my life – full of highs and lows and emotions that are hard to put into words." He expressed his gratitude for having lived his dream but also looks forward to new challenges, experiences, and time for things that have been neglected.
Eisenbichler made his World Cup debut in the 2011/12 season and was a key figure in the German team for many years. His greatest achievement was winning the individual gold medal at the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld. He also claimed five additional World Championship gold medals in team events and secured Olympic bronze with the team in Beijing in 2022.
