2020-11-20 · 15:29

The World Cup kick-off of the 2020/2021 season is just around the corner. With the team competition on Saturday and the individual competition on Sunday the ski jumpers will collect their first World Cup points this winter.

A season like no other. This year's summer break only one FIS Grand Prix could be held due to Corona, which means that the start of the season will be more exciting than ever, as the comparison among the athletes from the summer is missing. Nevertheless, the German national coach, Stefan Horngacher, looks forward to the first test of strength in Wisła with confidence: "It is a great pleasure to finally compete again. We are very happy that Wisła can host the kick-off. After a summer without competitions, it is extremely important for us to get back into the competition business".

From the four internal summer competitions of the Germans, Karl Geiger, Markus Eisenbichler, Andreas Wellinger, Martin Hamann, Severin Freund, Constantin Schmid and Pius Paschke qualified for the jumping at Wisła. "I am really looking forward to the World Cup start in Wisła. I have been training for this for a long time now. My preparation was pretty good", so Eisenbichler, who was crowned the new German champion in October.

Besides the German eagles, we are looking at another top favourite: Austria. With last year's overall winner, Stefan Kraft, as well as steady podium finishes and top ten results by Philipp Aschenwald, Michael Hayböck, Daniel Huber, Jan Hörl and Gregor Schlierenzauer, the Austrians can look forward to a promising season.

Speaking of the top favourites, the local heroes should not be forgotten! With Jarosław Krzak, Andrzej Stękała, Paweł Wąsek, Tomasz Pilch, Klemens Murańka, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Stefan Hula, Maciej Kot, Jakub Wolny, Piotr Żyła, Kamil Stoch and Dawid Kubacki, 12 strong Poles will participate in the qualification.
